In the role of President, we see the return of Glenn “Knows Everyone” Gittens. Along side him, Justin “Fine Edge” Epthorp will be spending another year in the role of Vice-President. Rounding out the executive is James “Technically” Hopcraft, who is moving into the role of Treasurer from general committee member, and sliding over in to the role of Secretary is Alexandra “I missed it! What happened?” Charles.

Taking a step back this year from D Grade Captaincy and the role of Secretary, Craig “Craigles” Shiel has taken the role of 355 Committee member, where he joins Josh “Needs to drink more milk” Harris, doubling up his role with the 355 Committee and our own. The Registrar, as always, is Alistair “Disco Duds” Leslie. Returning as the Webmaster and general IT man is Scott “Designated Club Nerd” Laffer.

Look out for the 2012/2013 Committee as they look to increase the amount of Juniors in the club, organise more social events and keep the club running.

Turn up, relax, catch up and celebrate the individual and team efforts and achievements. Don’t forget your duck!

 The GGCC Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at the Glenorie RSL Club on Tuesday the 3rd of April, starting at 7pm.

Savio Gracias Flor and Robert Barker are members of the successful u15s HKHDCA Presidents Cup team which won the championship on the 12th of February. The team was coached by our Vice-President and A grade opener, Justin Epthorp, and managed by our very own club President, John Barker.

The HDHKCA Telegraph Shield side, with bowling spearhead Karl Triebe and manager Justin Epthorp are joint premiers along side Camden after rain affected their much anticipated final.

Galston-Glenorie Cricket Club together with the McGrath Foundation and Mt Colah Cricket Club are hosting a Pink Stumps Day fundraising event next Saturday at Northholm Grammar. All proceeds from the event will go to the McGrath Foundation to help promote breast cancer awareness and provide more Breast Care Nurses across Australia.

So far we have raised over $750 with corporate donations. There is also a raffle for a brand new McGrath Foundation Puma bat. Tickets are $5 each and are available from all team captains. Again, all proceeds are going to the McGrath Foundation. You can download the flyer for the event here.

On the 19th of November at Greenway#2 against WPHCCC, Rob came in to bat at 1/23, with Hayder coming to the crease when the score was 5/79. What followed was an onslought of runs that lasted for almost 3 hours.

Rob scored 231 off 147 balls, which included thirty six 4’s and six 6’s. Rob broke a record from 1949/1950 (Cunningham – 200) and also, according to the HK&HDCA website, scored the second highest score ever in juniors history. 231 also broke the Galston-Glenorie highest innings score, passing the 225 set by both Justin Epthorp and Harry Pears.

Hayder played the supporting role, showing patience and maturity beyond his years, scoring 46 off 87 balls including five 4’s. According to those at the ground, “… by about halfway through the innings, it was like watching 2 seasoned professionals who had batted together for years“.

Congratulations to Rob and Hayder on their monumental achievements!

Both clinics run from 9:00am to 12:30pm and will provide a comprehensive coaching program for boys & girls (6-15 years).

GALSTON-GLENORIE edged past Hornsby to score their first win since returning to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai and Hills Cricket Association A grade competition.

Batting first at Parklands Oval, Hornsby captain Brent Hartland raced to a half-century after just 15 overs, hitting 13 fours before being dismissed for 62.

Then Hornsby collapsed from 3-87 to be all out for 112.

The destroyers were medium-pacers Josh O’Connor (3-32) and Glen Gittins (2-14).

Galston-Glenorie lost an early wicket but veteran Mark Middleton and Ted Tully steadied the side.

Middleton (37) was strong off the back foot and batted patiently, while Tully (22) played some delightful shots off his toes.

Galston-Glenorie moved to 3-91 before accurate bowling from Hari Jaganathan (2-22) and Darron Green (3-32) triggered a collapse.

But Liam Tully (10 not out) and Jason Stjernquist (2 not out) secured victory for Galston-Glenorie.

 

The in2CRICKET Program started last week with the Come and Try promotion. There was a great turn out, and a lot of fun was had by the kids of all ages.

Any children, boys or girls, aged between 3 and 8 are encouraged to come down and try In2CRICKET. We will not be charging any fees for this session and there is no obligation to stay on and complete the program.

If, however, the kids enjoy playing and learning about cricket we would love it if they would stay on for the full 10 weeks and complete the whole program.

The cost for the full program is $60 and  this gets the kids a pack full of cricket goodies!
